Should out-of-form Liverpool fail to get the three points at Anfield this evening against their old nemesis Chelsea then surely the title race is all but over with the trophy destined for the Bridge. Reds legend Luis Garcia, speaking exclusively to 888sport, agrees but such has been the depth of Liverpool’s slump in recent weeks his concerns go deeper – to the possibility of missing out on a Champions League spot.

“It is a difficult, difficult game especially how it has been these past few weeks but we cannot be worried about the title race, because that was only possible for a short period of time. The target at the beginning of the season was to finish inside the top four. For that we need to worry because teams around Liverpool are only getting better.”

As for tonight’s fierce clash the popular Spaniard has additional worries, namely a weakness in Liverpool’s armoury that the visitors will be hoping to exploit.

“The intensity of the team was always high and that has been lacking the past couple of games. The pressure and pressing is not the same as it was a month ago. When the team goes forward it breaks a little bit, leaving a lot of spaces like we saw against Wolves. It leaves just three at the back and we now struggle against counter attacks. Teams know that and wait for the chances.”

The rest of the league will be hoping Garcia’s concerns are unfounded. Otherwise the bell will ring on the title fight before we even see in February.
