Last night’s Greece v Croatia Euro 1012 qualifier was forced to be suspended for six minutes after a 100-strong mob of Greek supporters threw flares and several petrol bombs towards the visiting Croats. Referee Howard Webb was left with little choice but to haul the players off with the game barely underway following the violence at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
The Cutter hopes the sport’s governing bodies clamp down hard on this and punish Greece at least as hard as they would if such disgraceful scenes were to have occurred in the UK. We will not be holding our breath.
The video above is from February of this year and is not directly connected to this incident but does point at repeated gross negligence on the Greek FA’s behalf to control the fans within their stadia.
