A leading Spanish newspaper has claimed that Real Madrid’s sublime schemer Mesut Özil is unhappy at the Bernabeu and wants to leave at the end of this season. Inter have reportedly already asked to be kept abreast of any developments as they seek a long-term replacement for wantaway Wesley Sneijder.

The young German magician was initially a big hit at Madrid following his £15m switch from Werder Bremen. Recently however there has been widespread criticism of his inconsistency, with an additional gripe that he is still sensational whenever he puts on a German national shirt. The re-emergence of Kaka has also complicated matters.

There will surely be no shortage of interested suitors next summer for one of the best young midfielders in the game particularly if he lights up Poland and the Ukraine at Euro 2012.
