West Brom are monitoring the developments at Olympic Marseille where star centre-back Souleymane Diawara has yet to commit himself to penning a new contract. His present deal runs out in June and the French club are desperate to either extend it or sell in January rather than allow the player to leave on a Bosnan next summer.

This has alerted Roy Hodgson who is keen to bolster a defence that has leaked sixteen goals already this term.

Diawara is an experienced Senegalese international who has already spent a season in the English top flight with Charlton in 2006. Since then his stock has risen considerably and he is highly rated in France.
