Paris Saint-Germain were always expected to be one of the major players in this month’s transfer window and if yesterday’s activity is anything to go by then we’re in for some high-class entertainment.
It began with PSG’s new gaffer Carlo Ancelotti’s attempt to reunite with Milan’s 22-year old striker Pato for a fee believed to be in the region 35 million Euros. What started as speculation soon became ‘fact’ as respected news source Agence France-Presse declared that it was a done deal.
Unfortunately no-one had bothered to ask the player himself and the young Brazilian swiftly issued a firm denial and stated that he was more than content to remain in Italy for the foreseeable future. PSG’s sporting director Leonardo salvaged some pride for the Qatari-owned billionaires by claiming that a deal had been agreed between both clubs and they would stage another bid in the weeks ahead.
If that episode wasn’t intriguing enough next came the sealing of Barcelona left-back Maxwell’s switch to the French capital for close to six million smackers.
The 30-year old has moved to the Parc des Princes having struggled to establish himself into Barca’s star-studded side following his move from Inter in 2009.
It’s a move that benefits all concerned but there is also an interesting caveat – Maxwell’s best friend in football is Zlatan Ibrahimovic and they have so far played together at Ajax, Inter and Barcelona. With a top-class striker topping Ancelotti’s wanted list…..
It’s looking like this could be a very exciting transfer window indeed and all eyes are on the moneymen from Paris.
