Library file dated 14/5/1948 of Middlesbrough legend Wilf Mannion, who has died at the age of 81 it emerged Friday 14 April 2000. Mannion died during the early hours after a prolonged illness just weeks after former England team-mate Sir Stanley Matthews. Nicknamed Ôthe Golden Boy’ and described as Ôarguably the best player in the club’s history’, the inside-right scored 110 goals in 368 league and cup appearances for Boro and was capped 26 times by his country.
