Boxing Day is one of the most hotly anticipated dates in the entire football calendar and offers fans the rarity of seeing all 20 Premier League teams in action. We’re looking to celebrate that in style with these betting selections.
It should be a phenomenal afternoon of football. Here are our recommended bets.
Good luck!
Chelsea V West Ham United. 12:45PM
The Hammers have been absolute fantastic this term but Sam Allardyce’s men could be in for a rare defeat as they head to Stamford Bridge for this eagerly awaited London derby.
Jose Mourinho’s men are yet to lose at home this season and that has largely been down to their fantastic defensive record. Meanwhile, the visitors do tend to concede on the road and we think the league leaders will make their dominance felt.
Chelsea to win-to-nil is 5/4 with BetVictor
Burnley V Liverpool. 3PM
Liverpool’s season has been disappointing to say the least as they flounder in mid-table. However, the significance of Martin Skrtl’s dramatic leveller against Arsenal could be huge and may spur the Reds to improved form over the coming weeks.
The Reds are creating chances and just need someone to convert them between now and Daniel Sturridge’s return. We think they can get amongst the goals at Turf Moor.
Liverpool to score over 1.5 goals is 10/11 with Boylesports
Crystal Palace V Southampton. 3PM
Two words: no bet.
Everton V Stoke City. 3PM
The Toffees are still struggling away from home but Roberto Martinez’s side are finally putting a string of results together at Goodison Park and that should continue with another three points against the Potters.
Mark Hughes’ men aren’t a bad side by any means and won’t be under any threat of relegation this term. However, there is a sense that they’ve reached their upper limit and that sentiment should be echoed here.
Everton to win is 17/20 with William Hill
Leicester City V Tottenham Hotspur. 3PM
It has been a miserable few weeks for Nigel Pearson’s Foxes and things are unlikely to improve for the Premier League’s bottom club as they face an in-form Tottenham at the King Power Stadium.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are on a three-game winning streak and have additionally put in some brilliant performances on the road this term. Whilst they are definitely impacted by defensive frailties, the visitors should come away with three points.
BTTS & Tottenham Hotspur win is 3/1 with Bet365
Manchester United V Newcastle United. 3PM
Louis van Gaal has sparked vast improvements from Manchester United since taking over this summer and the Red Devils can extend Newcastle’s hellish festive period during this crucial clash at Old Trafford.
The hosts have picked up 22 from the last available 24 at the Theatre of Dreams and will be extremely confident against a Magpies side that has shipped eight in its last two away matches. Back the attacking prowess of Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney to shine through.
Manchester United to win both halves is 2/1 with Ladbrokes
Sunderland V Hull City. 3PM
Adam Johnson wrote his name into Wearside folklore last Sunday with a last-gasp winner against bitter rivals Newcastle and we’re backing the former England winger to have a big say in this clash against Hull City.
The ex-Manchester City player has a tendency to enjoy purple patches in front of goal and the derby winner may just kickstart another.
Adam Johnson to score anytime is 4/1 with BetVictor
Swansea City V Aston Villa. 3PM
Having underrated Swansea all season, I’m finally being won over by Garry Monk’s side and are therefore backing them to end their 2014 home campaign in style.
Villa picked up a credible draw against Manchester United last weekend but have really struggled for goals on the road. It could be another long afternoon for Paul Lambert’s men in Wales.
HT/FT: Swansea City/Swansea City is 7/4 with Bet365
West Bromwich Albion V Manchester City. 3PM
Manuel Pellegrini’s defending champions have done really well to close the gap on Chelsea and will be hoping to keep their winning streak going into the New Year with another three points against struggling West Brom.
City travel to the Hawthorns on the back of an eight-game winning streak in all competitions and will be extremely confident on a ground where they’ve won in each of the past two campaigns.
Second half result: Manchester City is 9/10 with BetVictor
Arsenal V QPR. 5:30PM
The late kick-off is another London derby and the Gunners will be desperate to respond in a positive manner after conceding that late equaliser to Liverpool on Sunday.
Fortunately for Arsenal, QPR are terrible on the road and are yet to pick up a single point away from Loftus Road. Expect Arsene Wenger’s men to make their presence felt from the outset
Arsenal -2 Asian handicap is 5/4 with BetVictor
