When football combines with music the result is not usually, have shall we say, culturally enriching.

Diamond Lights anyone? Or how about the thankfully little-known We’re England Underneath featuring a clearly kidnapped Peter Shilton.

All of that is about to change however with the Football Association of Wales announcing yesterday that the official Wales EURO song for this summer has been written and recorded by none other than the Manic Street Preachers.

Entitled ‘Together Stronger (C’Mon Wales)’ the call to arms celebrates greats from the nation’s past along with the present squad who have reached a major tournament for the first time in half a century. As is now tradition the players themselves feature on the record and the dulcet tones of Gareth Bale and co can be heard on the record’s release on May 20th.

Speaking about the collaboration with the Manics, Chris Coleman said: “It was fantastic to be involved with such an iconic Welsh band. Manic Street Preachers have been passionate Welsh football supporters and all the lads enjoyed the experience and joined in.”

‘Together Stronger (C’mon Wales)’ is being released at the same time as Manic Street Preacher’s 20th Anniversary re-issue of their hugely successful fourth album ‘Everything Must Go’ and all profits from the song will go to the Princes Gate Trust (http://princesgatetrust.com) and Tenovus Cancer Care ((http://tenovuscancercare.org.uk).
