A great many would have bet Alexis Sanchez wouldn’t be at Arsenal at the end of the summer transfer window and I for one believed Manchester City were going to get him. I also thought it made sense for Arsenal to sell him in the summer but after their failure to get Thomas Lemar from Monaco it is of course entirely understandable why the north London giants went all-out to retain the services of their most influential player.

Had Arsenal managed to sign Lemar, I am sure Wenger would have been more favourably disposed to selling Sanchez and equally they probably would have sold if it had been PSG or Bayern Munich making all of the running rather than City. Wenger knows selling to a direct rival would have had a negative effect on the fan base especially as Monaco weren’t ready to let Lemar go.

Sanchez’s performance so far this season has obviously been affected by his inability to move away from the Emirates. As of the time of writing this article he has only scored one goal (in the Europa league against FC Koln ) and created one assist – the one against Burnley. It is obvious the South American has his mind made up on leaving Arsenal and a look at sports betting app from Cherry Rush and other betting websites will show you that Sanchez is odds on to leave either in the summer or in January.

To further support this, a video doing the round on the social media shows the Chilean and Arsene Wenger snubbing each other for a handshake during the Gunners’ last training session. Wenger is known to greet all his players with a handshake before any training section. This has led to many conspiracy theories among Arsenal’s fan base on social media.

In a bid to douse all the tensions, Arsenal Wenger has moved to explain what actually led to the “handshake snub”. According to a report by Daily mirror online, Arsene Wenger he and Sanchez had already met at the club’s medical centre and shook hands hence a second handshake before training wasn’t necessary.

Whether this is the truth or not we will never get to know but one thing is certain: Arsenal need Sanchez to deliver for them for at least 3 month months ( assuming he is getting sold in January which I think is very likely ). Arsenal desperately need to get back into the top four to stand a chance of playing in the Champions League again and Sanchez is certainly essential in making that happen.
