Josip Vukovic would be a great signing for Rangers in the summer if they were able to beat the crowd of Premier League clubs reportedly interested in signing the Ibrox target.

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea, Leicester, Watford, Wolves and Benfica have all been keeping tabs on the Maritimo midfielder, who is valued at £4million and is also wanted by Steven Gerrard in Glasgow.

IS HE SPECIAL?

Vukovic has been seriously impressive for Maritimo this season and would be a masterclass of a signing for Mark Allen if the Rangers director of football was able to sign the Croatian midfielder. He has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Maritimo this term, and his form has really found a new level since the start of 2019. Rangers cannot be blamed for taking a look at Vukovic, but the next step will be about trying to coax the 26-year-old to Ibrox when it seems that the Premier League is also a potential destination in the summer. The Light Blues should be able to afford the £4million valuation of the defensive midfielder and it would be a smart allocation of funds by Allen if he gives the green light to a deal.

WHERE WILL HE FIT INTO TEAM?

Gerrard has quite a lot of midfielders in his squad at Ibrox, but we can expect a few of them to move on in the summer. Lassana Coulibaly and Steven Davis could return to their parent clubs when their loans expire while Graham Dorrans is probably facing an uncertain future amid a high number of injury issues. Vukovic is a defensive midfielder so he would be in direct competition with Ross McCrorie for a spot in Gerrard’s starting line-up. If Rangers want to spend £4million on the former Croatia youth international then they are bound to hand him a key role in the side.

INTERESTING FACT

Vukovic was handed his Croatian top-flight debut while playing for Hadjuk Split. He made his debut against Osijek, who Rangers signed two players from in the summer after beating them in the Europa League qualifiers.
