What would represent a successful season?
I think defending the league is going to be very difficult with most of the top teams strengthening their squads but with the players we have we’re definitely capable of retaining the title. There’s also decent opportunities for winning another cup but I’d be more than happy for us to win the league again.
How important is a decent assault on Europe?
I wouldn’t say it’s a must win and we didn’t do too bad in our first year with 10 points which is normally considered enough to qualify. However this time we should be looking to get to at least the last 16 stage.
Are you happy with the manager?
More than happy! How can anyone not be? I wouldn’t have anyone else in the world over him.
If you could persuade him to change one thing what would it be?
I can’t really think of something I’d want him to change. ‘If it isn’t broke why fix it?’
What’s your views on the lack of signings made so far?
I’m not really concerned about the lack of signings as we have a very strong squad and with the financial fair play on the horizon we need to shift the very expensive dead weight. Although I can see a couple of additions arriving
Who would you like to see brought in?
I’d like to see a top class centre back brought in to keep Lescott on his toes as Savic looks as though he’s struggling to adapt to the Premier League. Also useful would be cover for Joe Hart. All this talk of van Persie I honestly think it would disrupt our attackers if we got him. He’s obviously talented but unless Dzeko goes – which I don’t want him to – then I think we should avoid him especially for 25+ million.
Is there a young player who could break through and make a name for himself this term?
I was really hoping to see John Guidetti make a serious case for the first team but with him not featuring in our pre-season I’m not so sure Mancini is going to use him but I may be wrong and hope so. Also I really like Dennis Suarez who already for his age looks an extremely talented player and with Karim Rekik our EDS squad is brimming with talented players who I’m looking forward to seeing progress.
Any player you’d like to be shown the exit door?
Yes, I’d like Adebayor to hit the road. I dislike his attitude – he shows no respect to the club paying his wages. Also Santa Cruz and permanently Wayne Bridge and for players so concerned with playing I don’t see why they are so reluctant to take a pay cut?
Which game do you want to win the most?
Obviously I want us to stuff United every game! But I really want us to beat Everton because we always seem to annoyingly struggle against them.
